There have been a few movies in The DC Animated Universe, and at least half of the Batman movies are amazing… if we are counting Batman Beyond.
- Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
- Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero (1998)
- Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)
- Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (2003)
A friend of mine who happens to be a youtuber loves the very first one, Batman: Mask of The Phantasm, to the point that she cosplayed as The Phantasm herself!
Not too long ago, she did a video on Mask of The Phantasm, thanks to a fan’s request, and I thought it would be better to hear from someone who truly loved the film about it, as opposed to myself, who was more into Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker.
It seems that The Phantasm must have been one of Bruce Timm’s favorite characters, as he made sure to bring both her and Batman Beyond back in the last season of Justice League Unlimited, in the episode Epilogue.
The Phantasm would also later make an appearance in the comic books based on Batman Beyond, which you could technically count as part of The DC Animated Universe’s canon, if you believe in the concept of canon, which almost every comic book fan does believe in.
The Phantasm might just be one of the most awesome characters created for Batman The Animated Series, and aesthetically, might be more impressive and terrifying to see in a dark alley than Batman himself.
