Happy Birthday, Apollo Smile!

Happy Birthday, Apollo Smile!

apollosmile few years agoBorn Paula Apollo Anne Scharf on February 16, 1967, Apollo Smile was an entertainer who started off as a singer but is probably best known as what she billed herself as in the 90’s, a ‘live action anime girl,’ whatever the hell that meant. I remember seeing her for the first time on the Sci-Fi channel’s anime week in her white and black outfit doing a little martial arts as she introduced anime movies. It was an awesome time to get into anime back then, partially because of her.

ulala3Okay, I lied. She is probably best known for her voice acting as Ulala in Space Channel 5, and has continued to voice her until even recent games such as 2012’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

apollosmile2Apollo Smile is still active as a dance instructor, last I heard, and I’m just happy that I even was old enough at the time to see her on Sci-Fi channel, and then years later figure out who she was long enough to learn more about her. Sorry for fan-boying, Ms Smile. You keep on being the awesome live action woman that you are, and I hope that you have an amazing birthday today!
