It was Nintendo’s last model for Their Wii console, and like the later iteration of the original model that dropped everything Gamecube, it too was a down grade. The aforementioned GC support, no wifi, and no SD card slot. It came packaged with The Wii’s Mario Kart, and hey… smaller horizontal design and yeah… it was a thing that exists, and can still be bought from Nintendo’s Amazon store for about $250.
Remember The Nintendo 2DS? Nintendo wasn’t selling the Nintendo 3DS and 3DS games like they wanted to. A lot of people saw 3D as a gimmick, so Nintendo released this version of the Nintendo 3DS, and people like me finally bought it for a cheaper price.
Remember The Wii U? Released two different versions of this system with insufficient storage space, and there was never a stripped down version of it. It lasted what, 4 years and despite having awesome games had it’s production line unexpectedly cut early when people expected a price drop. There were a lot of great games for this console that did not rely on the Wii U gamepad that might be quickly forgotten if they do not get ported to The Switch.
The Switch. Ah, Wii U’s popular younger brother that does Zelda… slightly worse than it does? What? Supposedly, Switch has been selling better than even The Wii, but since we are in the 1st month still… wii will see what happens.
What are my obvious predictions for this handheld console hybrid?
Within 3 years, there will be a ‘Switch-less’ version of the hardware that is smaller, has possibly more HDD space, comes with a game, and 1 pro controller as opposed to the joycon controllers. This will be a system that can never go portable as it has no screen, but will be aimed at hardcore audiences who rarely desire to use that feature.
I believe that this will happen, because the only one that did not have later iterations that were cheaper to manufacture with less features died.
If this does happen, I will back The Nintendo Switch so hard! Large HDD with no screen… come on Nintendo! Make this happen!
