I would have done amazing in this episode of “Um, Actually.” Sailor Moon, Buffy, The Last Unicorn? I would have CRUSHED IT! Now Star Craft, Harry Potter, Mad Max, etc… less so, but I’d have put the entire system on trial!
KAMEHAMEHA isn’t a magical phrase!! It’s Martial Arts, and not even a phrase! It’s a proper noun! Umm, Actually there were more people in King Haggard’s castle that had a brief cameo in the comic, and a much larger part in the book!
Louisianime 2018! AHhh Baton Rouge LA! My home away from home! The land of uh… Louisiana! And a Raising Canes that is within walking distance! I… okay… so I’m missing a chunk of useful information about the city of Baton Rouge, but you know what? Louisianime is the only convention that I’ve been to 9 years in a row… OUT OF 10! I was there when it was being dreamed up by a couple of my friends, and then bought by two of my besties and than the dark times came… but they got better than worse and finally AMAZING.
Now that I’ve sold you on Louisianime, here are some links to my photos from the convention:
The name for this blog started out as a terrible web comic for a terrible website about Sailor Moon. Well, that was all done for Easter April Fool’s Day. Now, 17 year’s later… and well… *sigh*
Web comics, Animated Music Videos, panels at anime conventions, youtube channel, this blog, I’ve done a lot of things with this name. Great thing about Sailor Moon? I keep getting older, but the senshi stay the same age. All right all right all right!
So… how about some random images from the blog to celebrate?
Everything above was either drawn, photographed, or at least edited by me at one point in the last 17 years.
Happy Easter Everyone. Expect a mer-monday post tomorrow.
Naoko Takeuchi – Creator of Codename wa SailorV as well as Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi had a huge impact on who I was as a teenager. Do not believe me? We all had to pick an artist in my art class to do a report on, and I chose Takeuchi-san here, and because of me… there was a Sailor Moon/V question on the 9th grade art final. You’re welcome, my entire class.
One of my fellow students chose Stan Lee, but that was because he liked drawing Spider-Man and did not do his research.
Sadly, while Takeuchi did do other manga, she started to get a bad reputation for not finishing her work, which makes me thing that Sailor V and then immediately Sailor Moon just burned her out, but who knows. She worked on a manga called PQ Angels, but apparently it was canceled after 7 pages of her manuscript were lost by her publisher Kodansha. Toei apparently also had the manuscript so it could have become an anime, but that was in 1996, so that probably wont happen.
She currently runs a company called Princess Naoko Planning (PNP) that manages her creative properties, but recently her husband Yoshihiro Togashi’s work has fallen under that banner as well, being in the credits of such anime as Level E and Hunter x Hunter. Maybe we will eventually see a YuYu Hakusho Sailor Moon crossover anime series?
Emma Watson – It is weird when I see the actors and actresses from Harry Potter, and have to acknowledge that they still exist. That being said, Emma Watson is an amazing woman who fights for equal rights for women. She is a UN WomenGoodwill ambassador, and Watson launched the HeForShe campaign, which requests men to stand up for gender equality.
Okay… I’ll be honest. I was going to keep on writing about international women, but most of the ones that I know about are actually American. I could talk about Rumiko Takahashi some more though, right?? Seriously, nominated for a 2018 Eisner hall of fame, Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, …. …. … *sigh* I’m an old anime fan.
Utada Hiakaru – I am slowly starting to realize that this is just a ‘Famous foreigners from when I went to high school. Only now though, I am also rememvering that Utada Hikaru is an American who was born in New York. Well… her parents are Japanese, and she works in Japan. Her American Albums did not do too well, and she is best known for doing the theme songs for Square’s Kingdom Hearts games.
I’m sorry. I just can’t think of more women who are alive, and not American. This started as a top 10, then 5, and now I’m cheating to make 4. Please, someone womansplain me some people, please.
I am 33 today, and there is nothing that I can do about that. What I can do though is post about the things from the past that make me happy. Seeing as how I’m sort of lazy and it is… you know, MY BIRTHDAY, a lot of this stuff might be pictures.
I think one of the problems I have, and this isn’t just on my birthday but every day, is that I will never be as boss as The Megazord wearing the Dragonzord as a mother effing coat. Seriously, Dragon Caesar makes a cool hoodie thing. First you defeat it, then you befriend it, then you get most of yourself inside it as if it is wearing you… and before you know it, that mo fo is your coat. Nothing I will get or do on this day will top that… and it makes me so sad.
I’m going back to Japan in August for a trip. Okay, I’m just rambling at this point. I’m scared of the future. I thought I found a girl who I could one day marry, but… *sigh* she got back together with me for a few days, went on one more date with me, strung me along that day while I was at work via messenger, and that next day dumped me. Again. She did this after all of the hearts and X’s and O’s in the message. I guess you can never really know someone.
She broke up with me because I’m not active, and I’m not career oriented. I took a week off from work just to be introspective and think about my life while on my vacation. *sigh* mistakes might have been made, right?
I’ll survive, as I always do. It sucks that she broke up with me on Valentine’s Day while I was stuck working in the Valentine’s Day tent… but you know… things are what they are.
So, to cheer myself up… here are some random images?
And now… one of the most over covered songs ever
Now I’m a little bummed out again. Well… Lucky Charms is replacing hourglasses with unicorns. That is something to look forward to… right? Might eat a bowl alone while watching The Last Unicorn.
Today for people of the many Christian faith is Easter Sunday. On this day, Jesus Christ was apparently resurrected from the dead after dying 3 days prior due to crucifixion. Crucifixion was a terrible fate under the Roman empire for many people. There were two theifs that happened to also be crucified alongside Jesus btw. Their names were Dismas and Gestas, not that that really matters.
Why doesn’t any of that matter? Because Easter is about rabbits hiding candy eggs for children to find, that’s why. Instead of continuing my ongoing struggle to obtain diabetes, I have instead decided to devote this day to going back to work after a week long vacation.
That… and Bunny Girls!
You see, Bunny Girls started out, to my knowledge, in the year 1960 when gentleman’s magazine Playboy created a club where their waitresses all dressed up in the now infamous playboy bunny outfit that was based on their mascot. Their mascot was a rabbit wearing a tuxedo.
IF you are okay with some nudity, I highly recommend the book 50 years of the Playboy Bunny. It has photos of famous bunnies throughout the years, as well as some behind the scenes stuff as well. I would probably classify this as a ‘coffee table book,’ but since there are some topless photos, umm… you really shouldn’t?
This outfit has been pretty popular in anime. Bulma from the original Dragon Ball comes to mind, as well as Lum and most of the immediate cast from Urusei Yatsura in the OAV Inaba The Dream Maker.
Strangely, Ranma Saotome, from Ranma 1/2 also has gotten in on the action despite the fact that he is originally male.
Speaking of anime, there was an anime called Daicon in Japan. Daicon 3 had a little anime opening for it starring a school girl. Daicon 4 featured the same girl all grown up as a bad ass bunny girl. Below is the video from both.
The people that made these animations later went on to be Studio Gainax. Gainax later went on to make the animem FLCL, where they once again had a character become a bunny girl, this time flying on a guitar instead of a sword.
Now, bunny girls are great, but one of the problems you run into is the question: Are bunny girls sexist? Maybe? Women seem to love them though too… so maybe not?
Naoko Takeuchi would often draw her main character Usagi (Bunny) with rabbit ears, and to the left is a picture of her as a Playboy bunny girl… but that isn’t too sexual, right? I mean, it’s from… the… waist… up…
Takeuchi dressed all of the inner senshi as playboy bunny girls. Awesome. Well… at least there isn’t anything more scandalous than…
Well… at least she isn’t dressed up like an angel in underwear with… *sigh* Happy Easter Naoko Takeuchi. *gah*
To close this out early, because I certainly could keep going… for example:
So year… to close it all out, like I’ve already said, Bunny girls are awesome.
